Rural and urban Muslim households frequently experience socioeconomic vulnerability due to limited financial literacy and structural dependence on predatory informal debt. Majelis taklim and Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) maintain deep communal trust, yet their pedagogical focus remains predominantly preoccupied with ritual jurisprudence (fiqh ibadah), leaving productive social finance unaddressed. This study investigates the pedagogical and institutional transformation of majelis taklim and pesantren in converting religious awareness into productive zakat literacy and household financial resilience in Bangkalan Regency, East Java. Employing a qualitative case study design, empirical data were gathered through semi-structured in-depth interviews with 18 key informants—including charismatic scholars (kyai/nyai), religious instructors (asatidz), institutional zakat officers (BAZNAS/LAZ), and participating women mustahiq supplemented by participant observation and documentary analysis. The findings reveal that expanding the pedagogical curriculum from individual devotional duties toward social jurisprudence (fiqh mu'amalah) stimulates productive zakat literacy and fosters communal business cooperatives (KUBE). Pesantren act as institutional incubators, mentoring women in transparent bookkeeping, halal product standards, and market linkages. Consequently, participating households experienced an average 42% net income increase, dismantled informal debt dependence, and alleviated domestic financial distress, directly preventing domestic instability and reinforcing holistic family resilience.
